Summer brought a wave of excitement and new experiences to our farm. We spent countless hours outdoors, creating a fish pond that quickly became a favorite spot for our dogs. Alongside the dogs, new friends arrived in the form of chickens and goats, adding life and joy to our daily routine. As the holidays approached, we eagerly anticipated welcoming Christmas puppies, but a false pregnancy shifted our plans. Now, with everyone healthy and spirits high, we look forward to the possibility of puppies arriving around Valentine’s Day.

Building the Fish Pond: A Summer Project That Brought Joy

One of the highlights of this summer was digging out a fish pond on the farm. It started as a simple idea to add a water feature, but it quickly turned into a central gathering spot for both humans and animals.

  • Planning and Preparation

We chose a quiet corner of the farm with good sunlight and natural drainage. The soil was soft enough to dig but sturdy enough to hold water. We mapped out the pond’s shape, aiming for a size that would be safe and enjoyable for the dogs.

  • Digging and Construction

The digging took several days, the dogs enjoyed all the digging and being able to lick my face once they had the height advantage as I kept digging deeper.

  • Introducing Fish and Wildlife

Once filled, we stocked the pond with a few hardy goldfish and a couple koi. The dogs were curious and cautious at first but soon discovered the pond was perfect for splashing and cooling off on hot days.

The pond quickly became a favorite spot for the dogs to play and relax. It also attracted other wildlife, creating a lively ecosystem that added to the farm’s charm.

Welcoming New Friends: Chickens and Goats on the Farm

Summer also brought new animal friends to our farm. Adding chickens and goats was a decision that enriched our daily life and gave the dogs new companions.

  • Chickens

The chickens settled in quickly, they now provide fresh eggs and lively entertainment. Their curious nature intrigued the dogs, who watched them peck and scratch around the yard. the dogs have been tempted a few times to chase their feathered friends but they listen well and give up the chase as soon as they are told.

  • Goats

Goats brought a playful energy. Their friendly and social behavior made them instant favorites with the dogs. The goats also helped maintain the farm by eating weeds and brush, keeping the land tidy.

The interaction between the dogs, chickens, and goats created a harmonious environment. It was rewarding to see the animals coexist peacefully.

The Holiday Season and a Change of Plans

As the year moved toward winter, we were filled with excitement about the holidays and the possibility of Christmas puppies. Our dogs had been carefully paired, and we hoped for a joyful litter to arrive in time for the festive season.

  • False Pregnancy

Unfortunately, one of our dogs experienced a false pregnancy. This condition mimics many signs of pregnancy but without actual puppies. It was a bittersweet moment, as we had prepared for new arrivals and celebrations.

  • Health and Care

Despite the disappointment, the dog remained healthy and well cared for. We focused on providing comfort and attention during this time, ensuring she felt loved and supported.

  • Looking Forward

The false pregnancy gave us time to regroup and plan for the future. We are now hopeful for puppies to arrive around Valentine’s Day, a perfect time to welcome new life and love to the farm.

Preparing for Valentine’s Puppies: What’s Next?

With the new year underway, our focus shifts to preparing for the upcoming litter. Here’s how we are getting ready:

  • Health Checks and Nutrition

We are ensuring all dogs receive thorough health checks and balanced nutrition to support a healthy pregnancy.

  • Creating a Safe Space

A cozy, quiet area is being set up for whelping and raising puppies. This space will be warm, clean, and comfortable for both mother and pups.

  • Planning Socialization

Early socialization is key to raising well-adjusted puppies. We plan to introduce the pups to the farm environment, including the fish pond, chickens, and goats, under careful supervision.

  • Engaging the Community

We look forward to sharing updates and welcoming visitors who want to meet the puppies once they are ready.

Making the Most of Farm Life

This summer and holiday season reminded us how much joy comes from simple, hands-on experiences. The fish pond project, new animal friends, and the anticipation of puppies all contribute to a rich, fulfilling life on the farm.

  • Daily Routines

Feeding, caring for, and playing with the animals keeps us active and connected to nature.

  • Learning and Adapting

Each season brings new challenges and lessons. The false pregnancy was a reminder to stay patient and flexible.

  • Building Memories

Moments spent outdoors, watching the dogs splash in the pond or the goats explore, create lasting memories that define our farm life.

As we move forward, the farm continues to be a place of growth, joy, and hope. The summer’s adventures and the holiday season’s surprises have set the stage for a new chapter filled with puppies and fresh beginnings. We invite you to follow along as we welcome Valentine’s puppies and share more stories from our lively farm.
